Sodium Sulfide

Sodium sulfide (Na₂S) is an inorganic compound commonly used in various industrial applications. It appears as a yellow to red solid with a pungent, sulfurous odor, typically available in hydrated or anhydrous forms. Sodium sulfide is highly soluble in water, forming a strongly alkaline solution. Its primary uses include leather processing, paper production (in the Kraft process), chemical manufacturing (as a reducing agent), and in the treatment of wastewater. While useful, it is also highly corrosive and can release toxic hydrogen sulfide gas when exposed to moisture or acids, requiring careful handling and storage.
